Random Walk Covering of Some Special Trees

چکیده

For simple random walk on a finite tree, the cover time is the time taken to visit every vertex. For the balanced b-ary tree of height m, the cover time is shown to be asymptotic to 2mb(log b)/(b− 1) as m→∞. On the uniform random labeled tree on n vertices, we give a convincing heuristic argument that the mean time to cover and return to the root is asymptotic to 6(2π)n, and prove a weak O(n) upper bound. The argument rests upon a recursive formula for cover time of trees generated by a simple branching process. J. Math. Anal. Appl. 157 (1991) 271–283. ∗Research supported by N.S.F. Grant MCS87-01426

Random Walk on Periodic Treeschristiane Takacs

Following Lyons (1990, 4]) we deene a periodic tree, restate its branching number and consider a biased random walk on it. In the case of a transient walk, we describe the walk-invariant random periodic tree and calculate the asymptotic rate of escape (speed) of the walk. This is achieved by exploiting the connections between random walks and electric networks. 1. Introduction This paper deals ...

The Uniform Spanning Tree and related models

The following type of question is characteristic of discrete probability: given a large finite set of objects, defined by some combinatorial property, what does a typical element ”look like”, that is, can we describe some of its statistical features. Simple as it is to state such questions, they can lead to surprisingly deep and difficult mathematical problems. In this course we are going to lo...

A Random Walk with Exponential Travel Times

Consider the random walk among N places with N(N - 1)/2 transports. We attach an exponential random variable Xij to each transport between places Pi and Pj and take these random variables mutually independent. If transports are possible or impossible independently with probability p and 1-p, respectively, then we give a lower bound for the distribution function of the smallest path at point log...

Tightness for the Minimal Displacement of Branching Random Walk

Recursion equations have been used to establish weak laws of large numbers for the minimal displacement of branching random walk in one dimension. Here, we use these equations to establish the tightness of the corresponding sequences after appropriate centering. These equations are special cases of recursion equations that arise naturally in the study of random variables on tree-like structures...

The Branching Random Walk and Contact Process on Galton–watson and Nonhomogeneous Trees

We show that the branching random walk on a Galton–Watson tree may have one or two phase transitions, depending on the relative sizes of the mean degree and the maximum degree. We show that there are some Galton–Watson trees on which the branching random walk has one phase transition while the contact process has two; this contradicts a conjecture of Madras and Schinazi. We show that the contac...
